Board of Directors

The Directors bring to the Board relevant experience and skills, including industry and business knowledge, financial management and corporate governance experience.

Peter Macourt, Chairman

Peter is a former director and chief operating officer of News Limited. While at News Limited, he served as a director of Premier Media, Foxtel, Independent Newspapers Limited and a number of subsidiaries and associated companies of The News Corporation Limited. Peter is currently Chairman of SKY Network Television Limited and a director of Prime Media Limited.

Peter is a member of the Audit Committee and the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Sue Channon, Group CEO

Sue has held senior management positions in various Australian healthcare organisations for over 20 years. Before her appointment to CEO of Virtus in November 2010, Sue was CEO of IVF Australia Pty Ltd. Prior to joining Virtus, Sue was State Manager for NSW and ACT for Medical Imaging Australia, the National Director of Nursing for Mayne Group (now part of Ramsay Health Care), CEO of Kareena Private Hospital, CEO of Castlecrag and Mosman Private Hospital and CEO and Director of Nursing for Castlecrag Private Hospital.

Sue is a member of the Risk Committee.

Sonia Petering, Non-executive Director

Sonia has more than 15 years experience in non executive director and chair roles with listed and unlisted companies and government authorities across financial services, payments, insurance, professional services and healthcare.

Sonia is an experienced commercial lawyer who commenced her legal practice in 2001. She holds a current Victorian legal practicing certificate.

Sonia previously served as a non executive director on the boards of Transport Accident Commission of Victoria and Rural Finance Corporation of Victoria and as Chair of the Board of Rural Finance Corporation from 2009 - 2016. Sonia is also a non executive director of TAL Dai - ichi Australia Ltd, Qantm IP (ASX:QIP) and Cuscal Ltd.

Lyndon Hale, Executive Director

Lyndon has been the Medical Director of Melbourne IVF Pty Ltd since 2008. He is also Director of Reproductive Surgery at The Women’s Hospital, and is on the board of the Fertility Society of Australia. Lyndon is highly regarded for his knowledge and proactive approach and brings extensive experience in assisted reproduction treatments to the care of his patients.

Greg Couttas, Non-executive Director

Greg is a highly experienced audit partner having spent 40 years with Deloitte including 28 years as partner. During his formative years he worked in audit across various sectors, specialising in ASX100 clients. Greg’s expertise includes accounting, finance, auditing, risk management, corporate governance, capital markets and due diligence. Additionally, Greg held a number of management roles at Deloitte including being the Managing Partner for NSW from 2005 to 2008, chairing the Audit and Risk Committee for eleven years, and was a member of the Board of Partners for Deloitte Australia from 2005 to 2016.

Shane Solomon, Non-executive Director

Shane is a highly experienced healthcare professional having worked in numerous Executive and Board roles across the public and private health sector over the past 34 years. Shane brings extensive health policy and a strong understanding of operational and clinical governance gained from his roles in the Victorian public health system including the role of Undersecretary for Health, and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority. Returning to Australia in 2010, Shane became a Partner at KPMG Australia, leading the National Health practice and in 2013, he became founder and Managing Director of Telstra’s eHealth business, Telstra Health. Shane was appointed in 2011 by the Council of Australian Governments to be Chairman of the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority he maintains this role and is on the Board of Silver Chain, one of the largest community based health care service providers in Australia.

Shane is Chair of the Risk Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.

Michael Stanford, Non-executive Director

Michael has extensive experience in the health services sector, having been Group CEO of several of Australia’s largest healthcare organisations over a 23 year period. The  most recent executive role being 16 years as Group CEO of St John of God Health Care, Australia’s third largest private hospital group and previous to that MD/CEO of ASX listed Australian Hospital Care Ltd.

He is currently a director of Nucleus Network Pty Ltd and is a former director of Healthscope Pty Ltd, Australian Clinical Laboratories Pty Ltd and Curtin University.

Michael was awarded an AM in 2018 for services to health, higher education and the community of WA. He is a member of the Board’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Risk Committee.
