Genetics

Using the very latest technologies, Virtus Diagnostics offers a broad range of genetic tests.

Through our Melbourne IVF fertility clinic and laboratory, Virtus established Australia's first pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) program in 1997 and maintain our position as world leaders in the field. We continue to achieve unprecedented success in this area, and our network of laboratories access this service to enable the detection of a wide range of genetic diseases.

In 2014, Virtus introduced karyomapping technology to Australia; a genetic test that significantly improves access to treatment for couples wishing to avoid the transmission of a serious genetic disorder to their children.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) using the Panorama Screen is a non-invasive blood test that is safe for both the mother and her foetus and is suitable for use at 9-weeks’ gestation. The unique methodology of the Panorama prenatal test utilises single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) technology and is much more efficient and accurate than other prenatal tests, with a clinical sensitivity of 90% for 22q11.2 in true pregnancy plasma samples.

Our highly efficient analysers and laboratories provide a comprehensive range of highly specialised hormones and infectious disease tests including Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and Activated Natural Killer Cells assay (NK).
